Alpine Fire Engineers Ltd is pleased to announce that its exceptional performance in Health & Safety (H&S) at one of British Beverage Company Diageo PLC’s sites has once again been formally recognised – this time with a prestigious May Safety Award. This achievement is the latest in a series of H&S accolades earned by the site team, reflecting their unwavering commitment to excellence and proactive risk management. 

The project has been led by Alpine’s Site Manager, Mark Hyland, Senior Project Engineer, Stuart Mackay and Firehalt Foremen, Dean Cadwallader – supported by HSEQ Manager, Tracey Ashworth-Golden. The team have worked closely with both Toyota PLC and Diageo PLC, developing a site culture where planning is integrated from the ground up. The results speak for themselves with consistent successive site inspections and audits which have passed without issue or adverse observation. 

One previous award highlighted the exceptional vigilance of Dean Cadwallader, who, during a routine point-of-work risk assessment, identified a small hole in a concrete cell floor. Acting swiftly, Dean made the area safe and escalated the issue to Toyota’s site Manager, Andy Marshall. Following investigations revealed a dangerous void beneath the concrete, defective work from the base build phase. If left unaddressed, this flaw could have led to catastrophic consequences if a Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP), had driven over it. 

Dean Cadwallader’s actions highlight the real impact of thorough, on-the-ground risk assessments. His initiative not only prevented a potential incident but also served as an important reminder of the critical role these assessments play – despite often being overlooked. 

Dean Cadwallader and Mark Hyland have been a key part in instilling a strong H&S ethos across the site. Their leadership, alongside Stuart Mackay, has set a standard that aligns perfectly with both Alpine and Diageo’s values.
