Project Aurora is a highly automated distribution centre commissioned by Urban Outfitters to support their growth strategy.

Brief

Alpine’s design engineers were tasked with designing a sprinkler system that protected a multi-tier mezzanine structure, conveyor protection, APR pallet, Mini Load and Shuttle Racking against damage ensuring business continuity in the occurrence of a fire.

Solution

Due to the unique design challenges presented by shuttle and miniload racking, an engineered solution was devised in conjunction with the insurer to deliver a tailor-made fire protection design. The presence of plastic totes within these areas, required the installation of three separate 2000 litre foam tanks to enhance the system and enable it to cope with the additional hazard of these storage methods.
